Booting one of the laptops into Ubuntu worked fine, no problem detecting the battery there, and it even holds it's charge for hours without the cable. However when booting into Vista on the same machine, the computer shuts down after 3 seconds without the cable plugged in. The only similar issues I've found on Google were solved by buying a new battery.
