Dec 27, 2014  How do I verify a Canon body serial number? Dec 26, 2014 Someone is selling a body on Craigslist and they sent a photo of the box with the body #. To determine the age of a Canon lens based on the new 10-digit serial number we have to visually break down the number into two, one and seven digits: DD A SSSSSSS. The first two numbers DD correspond to the manufacturing date. It starts in January 2008 with number 38. 39 is February 2008 and so on until December 2012 which is 97.

The first letter represents the name of the factory at which the product was made - often O for Oita (cameras) or U for Utsonomiya (lenses). The second letter is the date code, in which A is the year 1986. The next two digits are the month of manufacture, and the last two digits are apparently internal codes meaningful only to Canon. In the UG0205 example, therefore, my lens was built in Utsonomiya in February 1992.' Here is my number: DS6031, which can be interpreted that it will be manufactured in 6/2004 at some place called 'Dxxxxx'. And i'm holding the camera now:-).

What you can conclude from the above theory? (hint: you can find the answer from one of Micheal J Fox's movies) cloudshift wrote: My 10D will be here tomorrow. I'm excited about it, no doubt. The friendly folks at B&H just faxed me my invoice, and on there is the serial # of the camera. I'm wondering it there's any way I can use this serial # to find out when the camera was manufactured.

Anyone know if this is possible? Lungli wrote: i just got my camera and am trying to determine its manufacturing date.
