April 2010 An EOS MOVIE plug-in that allows footage shot on EOS DSLRs to be edited more easily in Final Cut Pro and the Canon RAW Codec plug-in (Version 1.7) are now available to download from the Canon Software Centre. Known as ‘EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro’ the plug-in was developed to provide an even smoother workflow for EOS MOVIE users who edit using Apple’s Final Cut Pro software suite (Versions 6.0.6 or 7.0). The plug-in enables the ‘Log and Transfer’ of all your video footage from the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 7D and EOS-1D Mark IV DSLRs – all of which offer full 1080p High Definition video recording. The plug-in will convert the required EOS MOVIE footage to Apple’s high quality ProRes 4:2:2 codec at approximately twice the speed of Apple’s standard conversion, without any loss of quality relative to raw EOS DSLR data. Without the plug-in you would have to import the MOV file from the EOS Movie into Final Cut Pro, then use the Write function to select the entire file for conversion to ProRes format via the Compressor engine. The plug-in can also be used to embed video editing information (such as timecodes, reel names and metadata) to the ProRes file quickly and easily.
